I listed down some of my skincare habits which have really improved my skin over the last past years. Take out some time for your precious organ and try to incorporate following habits to achieve healthy looking skin. (no particular order)
1. Research before buying:
First thing first, before investing your money in any skincare or beauty product the most important thing we need to do is to do proper research. Don’t just fall for clever marketing. We need to consider our skin type, the ingredients, safety parameters, price, etc.
2. Sunscreen EVERY SINGLE DAY! :
Early teenage, Late teenage or mid age, irrespective of age factor Sunscreen is THE MOST IMPORTANT skincare habit. 80-85% of the aging process caused by the Sun rays. Wear sunscreen daily, even when it is rainy or cloudy. Remember, sunscreens need to be reapplied about every two hours to maintain maximum efficiency. So make this as your basic skincare habit. I am going to write an exclusive post on Sunscreen Soon.
3. Off the Makeup:
Our skin repairs itself during the night and makeup left on the skin restricts the process. Never sleep with makeup on. I love makeup and I also love the process of taking it off ( very rare to see). Try using oil cleansers and I bet you will also love taking off your make up as it feels so relaxing.
4. Hydration is key!:
Whatever is your skin concern, I personally believe keeping our skin hydrated solves most of the skin problems. It can help keep our skin clear, smooth and wrinkle-free in the future. It also helps reduces discoloration. So always put moisturizers and stay hydrated.
5. Exfoliate Regularly:
As we all know, our skin sheds dead skin cells. Over a 24-hour period, we lose almost a million skin cells [source: Boston Globe]. and these dead cells stick around for a while. Exfoliation is a process that removes these dead skin cells from the upper layer of the skin, revealing the healthy skin underneath. Whether you have dry, normal, oily or sensitive skin, exfoliation is best suitable for all skin type. We need to exfoliate once or twice in a week for mild exfoliation and for intense exfoliation treatment once or twice in a month is recommended.
6. Not to ignore hands, feet and other parts of the body:
I realized, more often we tend to the overlooked skin on our body. Skincare is just not FACE. It’s everything from Face to Toe. Our body, especially our hands and feet are more exposed to the harsh environment. The skin on hand is much thinner than a face, hence it tends to age faster than face. Other parts of the body also need to keep hydrated to avoid/ reduce discoloration or stretch marks. So, it is very important to take care of the entire skin on our body and not just face.
7. Clean Makeup Tools ( Makeup brushes, sponges, makeup bags, even containers):
Cleaning up tools isn’t a fun I know, but its so important as all these tools has n number of bacterias and we have to get rid of them! So we need to wash these tools once in a week with baby shampoo and lukewarm water. It will not only remove bacterias but will also improve the life of makeup tools.
8. Time to start Anti-aging Routine:
Prevention is the best medicine. Retinol is the name of the game. I am 30 now. I started Anti-aging when I was 25 (Quite late ). Trust me better late than never, anti-aging treatments won’t make you look like the way you used to look in your teenage but it will stop or slow down the aging process further.
9. Be consistent:
Stick to a solid routine every morning and night. We need to apply products in right order and in the right quantity. Be patient with the routine as it takes time to show results, many products take 6-12 weeks to show desired results.
